THE STORY GOES...
More than a hundred years ago, there was supposedly a miller who processed old rags into paper along the Leuvenumse Beek stream. He went through each rag to remove the copper buttons. He saved these until he had a large chest full. He sold the buttons and with the money, built a house on the most beautiful hill in the forest, named "Het Roode Koper" (The Red Copper).
FROM COUNTRY ESTATE TO HOTEL
The actual history is that in 1912, the Count of Limburg-Stirum founded the "Het Roode Koper" estate, comprising a villa with outbuildings and an English landscape garden. When the Count subsequently became Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies, new residents followed in the 1930s and 1940s, including the Patijn family. After the Second World War, the estate, including 2,700 hectares of surrounding forest, was purchased by Natuurmonumenten, which still maintains the Leuvenumse Bos. In 1947, the Van der Werf family became the owners of the estate and converted this beautiful spot into a hotel. The estate is still managed by the family today.

Surrounded by beautiful nature
Due to our estate's location deep in the Veluwe forests, Het Roode Koper maintains close ties with Natuurmonumenten (Dutch Society for Nature Conservation). Together, we ensure that the surrounding forests are accessible to our guests and protect wildlife and nature. With our nature guide, Gerrit Rekers, you can take private walks through the Leuvenumse Bos. He'll tell you all about the flora and fauna and knows the best spots for spotting wildlife.

Our estate is located in Leuvenum, centrally located in the Netherlands. With easy access to the Randstad and all surrounding provinces, it's an ideal meeting place for families, friends, and business contacts. It's also a great base for exploring the rest of the Netherlands. Het Roode Koper is never far away.

After passing the cattle grid on the kilometer-long driveway, you'll see the characteristic villa. Through the sweet-smelling rose garden, you walk past the heated outdoor pool and past the Polish House to the Coach House, Front House, Riding School, and finally the stables. Nestled among the rhododendrons is the tennis court.
